WI

Broxton and Bickerton W.I. President Mrs Freda Sutcliffe.

W.I. Life, the title of our magazine is a paraphrase for the W.I. members locally. Our branch was formed in 1926, when invitations were sent to local ladies, and Lady Helen Grosvenor was elected as the first President. The ideals of truth, tolerance, justice and fellowship are as strong today as at the birth of the National WI in 1915.

We are now in our 85th year and have a membership of 65. Our monthly meetings have Speakers on wide-ranging topics, which find us sharing fun, friendship and sometimes much food for thought.

In addition, we meet locally in groups for keep-fit, art classes, rambling, book club and craft workshops to stimulate the many talents and interests of both members and their friends. The WI Country Markets in Tattenhall and Whitchurch are a showcase for home produce and craftwork, which is on sale to the public.

Our Spring Holidays, theatre visits and outings to places of interest, have always welcomed others to join with us. Social events raise cash for the Village Hall, Cottage Hospitals and Hospices.

Interesting events, within the County and at the WI Denman Colege in Oxfordshire, offer women a very large range of learning opportunities including arts and crafts, music, personal development and leadership skills. Again most of these are open to members and non-members alike.

If you are interested and would like to come along as a guest to see if the WI is for you, please contact:

Mrs Freda Sutcliffe - 01829 782109 or Mrs Margaret Cox - 01829 270610

We promise you a warm welcome. Our meetings are held in BickertonVillage Hall on the last Wedesday of each month. The meetings commence at 7.30pm.
